The computer your site runs on — a small cloud server, online around the clock and rented in yourname. That's what makes the site truly yours.
Where to get one
Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Vultr or Linode — the cheapest plan (about $5/month) is plenty. When asked which OS, pick a plain Ubuntu 24.04 image (or 26.04 / Debian 12–13) and skip any control panel.
2. Your own domain
This is your site's address — like yoursite.com— the name people type to find you. It's registered to you, so the brand is yours, not ours.
Where to get one
Cloudflare, Namecheap or Porkbun — around $10 a year. You point it at your VPS once (a single setting), and the wizard shows you exactly where to click.
